Elon Musk works 80-100 hours per week to maintain his title as the world’s richest man, so what daily habits does he employ to stay focused?
Approximately 90 percent of his time at SpaceX is spent on design work, and 60 percent at Tesla.
Finty site reports that SpaceX employees spend Mondays and Fridays at their offices in Los Angeles and Boca Chica, and Tesla employees spend the rest of the week at their headquarters in the San Francisco Bay Area.
He currently runs four successful businesses – Tesla, Space X, The Boring Company, and Neuralink – and his planned takeover of Twitter will likely increase his workload even more.
Here are five habits that Iron Man (as he is popularly known) maintains that help him manage his time and priorities and push him to achieve new heights.
1. Getting Adequate Sleep and Waking Up Early
Musk confirmed in a Reddit AMA that he wakes up around 7:00 am daily. This seems reasonable compared to Apple CEO Tim Cook’s daily alarm at 3:45 am, although Cook is said to hit the hay as early as 8:45 pm while Musk doesn’t turn in until around 1:00 am.
All successful CEOs wake up early in order to get a head start and increase productivity.
Cryptocurrency enthusiasts get around 6-6.5 hours of sleep because they believe lack of sleep hinders their productivity.
“Sleep is really great. I find if I don’t get enough sleep I’m quite grumpy,” Elon Musk said.
“I could drop below a certain threshold of sleep, [even though] I could be awake more hours, I would get less done because my mental acuity would be affected.”
2. Take a Daily Shower
In a Reddit AMA, Musk revealed he showers regularly because it has the biggest positive effect on his life.
Around the world, people skip showers in order to save time and complete tasks faster. Musk won’t be having any of that. No matter what the schedule for the day may be, he always finds time for a shower.
The shower was a crucial part of how he woke up and prepared for the day’s challenges, and he didn’t feel in the right headspace without it.
Showering has several health benefits aside from personal hygiene, including rejuvenation, removing toxins, reducing stress, and improving immunity and blood circulation, among others.
You could be missing out on all the wonderful benefits of showering if you decide to skip it next time.
3. He Eats to Live and Not the Other Way Round
Musk has stated in interviews that he usually skips breakfast due to the morning rush. But on days when he does eat, he prefers an omelet.
Musk doesn’t spend too much time or energy on ‘three square meals a day, as most of us do.
According to Auto Bild TV, the billionaire probably indulged only during business dinners.
In meetings, he usually has lunch within five minutes, and he doesn’t spend much time on food.
Indulgences don’t bore him completely, and he has some favorites.
Musk loves Diet Coke, French food, and barbecues. Additionally, he loves whiskey and wine and has hosted or attended some of the most legendary all-night parties, according to Entrepreneur.
4. Not Always Available for Phone Calls
The genius innovator and wealthiest man on earth cannot be accessible to all at the click of a button.
Musk admits that he spends most of his time at work and does not answer all phone calls.
Additionally, he uses an obscure work email address to block all unnecessary correspondence.
One of the greatest skills in life is being able to filter out superfluous communication. It is imperative for every career-focused individual to identify and prioritize goals.
5. He Is a Voracious Reader
One common habit among successful CEOs is reading.
He spends a significant amount of time reading books, despite his busy schedule. His favourites include The Lord of the Rings, biographies of Benjamin Franklin and Albert Einstein, and Twelve Against the Gods.
According to Harappa education, the habit of reading strengthens your mental muscles.
Science has proven that reading improves comprehension and analytical skills. It stimulates both the imagination and the memory centers of the brain.
The fact that Musk is one of the great innovators of our time is no surprise.
